Outreach Peer Specialist

Position:  Peer Outreach Specialist (REAL program)                

Full Time Position working 9a-5p

Overview of Company:

Mental Health Association of Nebraska (MHA-NE) was incorporated in 2001. We are a completely peer operated, participant driven organization that provides a variety of different programs available to individuals living with mental health and/or substance use and addiction issues. This position is a grant funded position.

Responsibilities:

·       Serve as an advocate with participants, have knowledge of recovery-based services and support individuals in making their own decisions in all matters

·       Demonstrate good communication with participants, families, supervisors, co-workers, and community providers

·       Demonstrate and promote the human dignity, rights, and well-being of program participants, serving all individual with unconditional high regard 

·       Foster an environment that is ethical, trauma informed and professional

·       Complete accurate and thorough documentation in accordance with the policy and procedures.

·       Demonstrating exceptional interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively with individuals coming from a variety of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and          beliefs.  Illustrate the ability to react constructively and compassionately in a wide variety of situations

·       Using your own experiences, knowledge, and outstanding organizational skills, you navigate complex resources and systems with ease to benefit individuals

·       Position will contain medium physical work consisting of exertion of up to seventy (70) pounds of force occasionally exerting up to twenty (20) pounds of                force frequently and exerting up to ten (10); pounds of force often to move objects. This position consists of a combination of sitting, standing, or walking

·       Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

·       Must possess a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and must have the ability to drive to meet and/or transport referrals

·       Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with staff across a variety of positions and levels of seniority throughout the agency and in the field

·       Demonstrate working knowledge of recovery and wellness philosophy as it pertains to substance abuse and mental health.

·       Preferred but not required Bilingual

Work Environment:

·       Direct contact with participants through various means including but not limited to home, office, and a variety of institutions

·       Sitting for extended periods of time, regularly talking to, and listening to others

·       Estimated travel - 40% of the time
